Beauty DIY: Skin Luminizer--Plus Video!

Hey you! We made it to Friday! Weekend plans? I'll be spending my weekend packing. I can't stand packing, but I'm heading to the BEACH next week for the annual trip with my friends. I can't wait! But no worries--you can have the glow anytime of year with my DIY Skin Luminizer! If you have dry skin, you'll love this!
Just a slight glow

A luminizer, or illuminator, is generally a liquid or cream product that adds an instant glow to the skin. But these amazing products can cost $40-$70! By making it yourself, you can adjust the glow how YOU want, plus you can probably make it for free! Additionally, by making it yourself you can make sure that you won't have a reaction to the products. I've been doing this for years and can't wait to share it with YOU. Enjoy.

You'll Need:

Base+Powder Highlighter

mixing materials

Directions:
  • Choose your base. I like using a liquid foundation because it is the easiest to mix with, but other alternatives: moisturizer, tinted moisturizer, or BB cream.
  • Choose your powder highlighter. You can certainly go high end, but I'm a drugstore kinda gal. I suggest Wet N Wild Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana or Hard Candy Bronzer in Tiki.
  • Decide how much luminizer you'd like--is this being used as a liquid highlighter or a face luminizer?
  • I'm making enough for my face, so I'd pour just slightly more than I would usually wear onto my mixing surface. I'm using a tiny dipping sauce bowl I got in Chinatown. It's so teeny!
  • Then, do about two scrapes, right down the middle, for a barely-there glow. For a more intense glow, I'd double that amount.

  • Mix it up! I suggest a swatch test on your hand to see how it looks. Play around with the consistency to see what looks best for you. I'm using a tiny spatula (almost everything is cuter in miniature!) that I got free at Sephora.
  • To have it look natural and dewy, a damp makeup sponge is key.
  • I dip the beauty sponge into the mix and dab it on where I want. Add more if needed. That's it!
TIPS:
  • I make enough just for one application to avoid problems with oxidation and expiration.
  • This can be worn alone, under, or on top of foundation. It depends on what products you're using, so experiment a little first. However, it will give everything it touches a glow, so hide those pores first!
  • If you are going to be around flash photography, avoid this look OR look for products that don't have SPF in them. Otherwise you'll get Flashback, aka Ghost Face. I would do a flash test at home just in case. In the highlighter pic earlier in the post, I have the old version of Reserve Your Cabana, aka Acapulco Glow. I stocked up on these since the titanium dioxide is such a small amount.
  • Mix the highlighter with your lotion for a glow on your arms and legs!
