Have a Little Fun

I tend to get into a rut sometimes. I find myself doing the same thing daily: blog business, work, post writing, shower, and sleep. Somewhere in there I eat and get some exercise in. The weekends are more of the same. I think we all get into a rut sometimes, as routine usually wins over something as simple as having fun. Priorities, right? That’s part of being an adult. Well, sometimes the best lessons come from unexpected people or places. And this reminder for me, came from a four year old.

I was blowing bubbles in the front yard (little known fact: I am an expert huge bubble maker) for the four year old to pop (widely known fact: she is an expert bubble popper). She was twirling around popping the bubbles, her preferred method, when I stopped and watched her. Her face was that of happiness. Sure, kids are made happy very easily, and who doesn’t enjoy bubbles? However, this was something different. This was a face, not of happiness on Christmas morning when opening presents, but of pure and total bliss. I was in awe, and a teeny bit jealous. I mean, can you imagine not having a care in the world?

Then I had one of those moments, where I realize I’m talking before thinking, and I just blurted out, “Why are you so happy all the time?” I didn’t ask it in an accusatory manner, but rather, one of pure wonderment. Without stopping her spinning (I told you, she’s an expert), she yelled, “Because I have fun every day!” Out of the mouths of babes, right? Message received loud and clear—I needed more fun in my day.

I do this thing called The 52 Project, where I do a different resolution each week. I share monthly roundups here on the blog. And my goal for that week was to do something fun or to simply have fun somewhere, somehow every day. Even if it’s just a few seconds, I’ve decided to keep that goal and have been doing it ever since. It sounds so simple of an idea, but it’s become the best part of my day.
